Breast Cancer Awareness Month
By Madeline Shepherd
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is an annual, international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research, including its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. There are events throughout the month to raise awareness, such as the Race for the Cure. There are also fundraiser walks to gain money for research, such as Canada’s Weekend to End Cancer and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Interestingly, women are not the only victims of breast cancer. It can also occur in men, but it is more rare.
Spreading breast cancer awareness is crucial for the health of people of today and for the generations to come. It is so easy to get involved. You can participate in Little Rock’s Race for the Cure or buy a pink lokai bracelet. Just do something to ensure that victims of breast cancer know that they are not alone in this fight.
